Beauty in the Details - Taking time for the little things

In today’s world we get so busy rushing from here to there that we often don’t notice the details. We don’t take the time to get in closer, be present and focus on the little things.

I love to get in close with my camera. Snuggle in and capture the details that make something unique or special. You will often find, in people and in nature, what makes us different is what makes us special, and I find getting up close and personal allows us to capture the essence of what makes a subject unique and, with the right lighting, even magical.

I find that I can get lost in the details. The way the frost wraps itself round a blade of grass or creeps around the edges of a petal in the first frost of winter. The bright colours of a flower petal that, from far away, looks like simply one colour blended together, but from up close you can clearly see where one colour ends and the next one begins.

The way the light dances on and through other objects – whatever the object may be, can TOTALLY change the look and the feel of the subject. Whether it be a flower, a blade of grass a leaf or a piece of fabric – getting up close and personal can make all the difference.

Look around you. Everywhere there are little things just waiting to be noticed. Whether it is the way that the spiderweb clings to your railing, or the curve of the handle on your front door. The grain of a piece of wood or the pattern of lace when a multitude of snowflakes come together. Step in. Get closer. Look closely. Get lost in the details – they are there - waiting to be seen. To be noticed. To be appreciated…

Step back – look around and write in the comments something you see that has always been there – but you have never noticed before.
